About the Role

The Senior Automation Engineer is responsible for the design, engineering, implementation, and commissioning of industrial automation and control systems projects. The role includes developing automation architectures, preparing engineering deliverables, ensuring compliance with client requirements and standards, and supporting project execution from concept through handover.

The successful candidate will work closely with clients, project teams, vendors, and site personnel to deliver automation solutions for water and utility sector projects.

Responsibilities

Engineering \& Design

• Design and develop control and automation systems utilizing PLCs, SCADA, RTUs, and instrumentation systems.
• Develop control system architecture, network architecture, and automation system layouts.
• Prepare and review engineering deliverables including:
• P\&IDs
• I/O Lists
• Instrument Lists
• Instrument Loop Diagrams (ILD)
• Control Narratives
• Functional Design Specifications (FDS)
• FAT \& SAT Documents
• Scope of Work Documents
• Develop engineering design packages in accordance with project and client requirements.
• Review technical requirements, specifications, and standards to ensure compliance with end-user requirements.
• Specify and evaluate field instrumentation, control valves, analyzers, PLCs, RTUs, SCADA systems, and communication networks.

Project Execution

• Lead and execute medium to large-scale automation projects from engineering through commissioning.
• Conduct site surveys, technical assessments, and system evaluations.
• Support installation, testing, and commissioning activities.
• Coordinate with supervisors, technicians, vendors, and subcontractors to ensure successful project delivery.
• Review and comment on automation and instrumentation design documents.

Technical Support

• Provide technical support and engineering solutions for automation and control systems.
• Diagnose technical issues and recommend corrective actions.
• Program and configure PLCs, RTUs, HMI, and SCADA applications when required.
• Participate in FAT, IFAT, SAT, and commissioning activities.
• Lead technical discussions with clients during engineering reviews and acceptance testing.

Customer \& Quality Focus

• Ensure project deliverables meet customer expectations, quality requirements, and schedule commitments.
• Maintain compliance with client specifications, project standards, and industry best practices.
• Support technical meetings and coordination with clients and stakeholders throughout project execution.

Reporting

• Prepare and maintain all project engineering and site documentation.
• Develop and submit site survey reports, testing reports, commissioning reports, FAT reports, and SAT reports.
• Monitor project progress and provide technical updates to project management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in Automation and Control Systems Engineering.
• Strong knowledge and hands-on experience in PLCs, SCADA, RTUs, Instrumentation Systems, Industrial Communication Networks, and Control System Architecture Design.
• Proven experience in developing technical specifications, P\&IDs, engineering drawings, system layouts, and scope of work documents.
• Experience in water, wastewater, utility, or infrastructure projects, with exposure to NWC projects considered an advantage.
• Knowledge of Rockwell, Siemens, Schneider, and other major automation platforms, as well as relevant international standards.

Technical Knowledge

• Rockwell Automation (Studio 5000, FactoryTalk, RSLogix, ControlLogix, CompactLogix).
• Siemens (TIA Portal, S7, WinCC).
• Schneider Electric (EcoStruxure / Unity Pro).
• Wonderware / AVEVA SCADA platforms.
• Knowledge of ANSI, NEMA, IEC, UL, and NEC standards.
• Understanding of FAT, SAT, Testing \& Commissioning procedures.
