TL;DR:
Fast growing Technology Firm in San Diego, CA. Digital marketing, ecommerce and 3PL platform supporting 200\+ brands is hiring a Principal Data Architect to rebuild and future-proof its data foundation. BigQuery and Snowflake are in place, but governance, modeling discipline, and architectural consistency need a reset. You will clean up the current warehouse, define the canonical data model, and architect a scalable platform that supports analytics, logistics, pricing, and customer dashboards.
POSITION DETAILS
Our client is seeking a hands-on
Principal Data Architect
to stabilize, modernize, and redesign our data ecosystem. This leader will define the long-term data architecture strategy while addressing immediate challenges within our current warehouse environment.
Their systems ingest high-volume data feeds, scraped competitive data, warehouse management data, and ERP/WMS-related operational datasets. The current environment leverages BigQuery and Snowflake but lacks architectural consistency and best-practice governance.
Core Architecture Responsibilities:
- Own the canonical enterprise data model
across ecommerce, marketplace feeds, warehouse operations, and financial systems.
- Define and enforce data contracts
between ingestion pipelines, operational systems, and analytics layers to ensure schema consistency and reliability.
- Design clear separation between operational and analytical data systems
, ensuring warehouse, WMS, and transactional systems remain performant while enabling scalable analytics.
- Architect reconciliation and validation logic
to ensure data accuracy across Amazon feeds, inventory systems, financial reporting, and customer dashboards.
- Develop deep expertise in Amazon marketplace data structures
, including Seller/Vendor feeds, product performance metrics, and pricing data flows.
- Design data architecture spanning multiple systems
, including warehouse management, accounting/financial workflows, and client-facing analytics portals.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 8\+ years in data engineering, data architecture, or platform engineering
- Deep experience with BigQuery and/or Snowflake in production environments
- Experience designing canonical data models in ecommerce, retail, or logistics environments
- Strong understanding of Amazon Seller/Vendor data feeds preferred
- Experience integrating ERP, WMS, or 3PL systems highly desirable
- Expertise in ingestion pipelines, data transformation frameworks, and warehouse optimization
- Familiarity with cost governance in large-scale analytics environments, preferred
- Experience managing or mentoring engineers and external vendors preferred but not required
- Location: Position is based in San Diego working hybrid onsite \~3 days per week
