Job Description

Job Title: Senior Data \& AI Engineer (Real Estate Private Equity)

Location:

Greenwich, CT (Hybrid: 1–2 days in office)

Company:

Confidential Multi-Billion Dollar Hedge Fund

About the Firm

We are a high-performing, Greenwich-based investment manager specializing in real estate debt with over

$2\.7 billion in assets under management

. Our firm manages a flagship yield fund and multiple separate account mandates for tier-one institutional insurance clients. Our portfolio is concentrated in high-conviction multifamily and industrial assets, encompassing approximately 75 active loans across 50 US markets.

We operate as a lean, elite team that consistently outperforms our peer group. We are looking for a rare individual who combines technical excellence with the drive to own the digital transformation of a multi-billion-dollar platform in a fast-moving, entrepreneurial environment.

The Opportunity

This is a newly created, high-impact role reporting directly to the Founding Partners. As our first dedicated Data and AI hire, you will not be in a support function; you will be the architect of our future technical stack.

Your mandate is to leverage AI, specifically Claude/LLM APIs, alongside Python and modern data tooling to automate mission-critical investment workflows. You will own these workstreams end-to-end, from architecture to delivery, directly influencing multi-million-dollar investment decisions and institutional client reporting.

Core Responsibilities

1\. Intelligent Investment Intake (AI-Driven Automation)

We evaluate 10–15 actionable loan opportunities daily. Each arrives as a complex broker package containing historical financials, rent rolls, and comps in varying Excel and PDF formats.

  • The Mission:

Build an automated pipeline using Claude’s document parsing capabilities and Python to extract, normalize, and populate our proprietary "Loan Sizer" models.

  • Success Metric:

Reducing manual data entry by 80%\+ and enabling the investment team to focus on high-level analysis over administration.

2\. Next-Gen Portfolio Analytics

Manage and visualize the performance of our loan portfolio.

  • The Mission:

Design and build a robust, automated reporting system tracking asset-level performance, loan maturity/refinancing risk, and early warning indicators.

  • Success Metric:

Delivering dynamic, visually clear dashboards that update automatically as new servicer data flows in.

3\. AI-Assisted Market Intelligence

We monitor 50\+ US markets quarterly for vacancy rates, absorption, and job creation.

  • The Mission:

Build an AI-assisted research platform that automates data collection and flags meaningful quarter-over-quarter trends.

  • Success Metric:

Producing market deliverables that are materially superior to manual research, providing a competitive edge in deal sourcing.

What We’re Looking For

Required:

  • 3–7 years of experience

in Data Engineering, Analytics Engineering, or Applied AI development.

  • Expert Python skills

, specifically for document parsing (PDF/Excel), data extraction, and workflow automation.

  • Demonstrated AI Implementation:

Proven experience deploying tools using LLM APIs (Claude, OpenAI, or equivalent).

  • Ownership Mentality:

Ability to work independently and make sound architectural decisions without close technical supervision.

  • Sector Experience:

Prior experience in Financial Services, Alternative Asset Management, or Real Estate. (Highly desired).

Strongly Preferred:

  • Commercial Real Estate Domain Expertise:

Experience at a debt fund, REIT, lender, or CRE tech platform (e.g., Trepp, CoStar, Cherre).

  • CRE Financial Literacy:

Familiarity with rent rolls, DSCR, LTV, NOI, and debt yield.

  • Visualization:

Experience building automated dashboards (Power BI, Tableau, or similar).

What This Role Is Not

This is not a theoretical Data Science role focused on abstract modeling. This is a

Hands-on Builder

role. The right candidate wants to own the full lifecycle—design, build, deploy, and maintain—and takes pride in seeing their tools used daily by the firm’s leadership.

  • Project Evaluation:

Qualified candidates will be invited to complete a short,

paid take-home project

involving data extraction from a sample broker package.

To Apply:

Please submit your resume and a brief summary of a specific automation or AI tool you have built and deployed.

Work Authorization \& Sponsorship

Our client is only accepting applications from candidates who are currently authorized to work in the United States for any employer on a full-time basis. Please note that the firm

does not provide sponsorship

(e.g., H-1B, TN, or other work visas) now or in the future for this position.

Location \& Relocation

This is a hybrid role based in Greenwich, CT. Candidates must be within a commutable distance to the office for the required in-office days.

Relocation assistance is not provided

for this role.
