Job Summary:

As a Senior Data Engineer at Visual Edge IT, you'll be the senior technical hire on a small, high-visibility Data \& Analytics team with direct executive sponsorship. We're in the middle of a company-wide data modernization—consolidating ERP, service, and managed-services data into a lakehouse built on Microsoft Fabric that will power how we understand our customers, price our services, and run our operations.

This role carries three mandates: own the platform as our implementation partner builds it out, ship production data products that answer real executive priorities, and multiply the impact of our analyst team by engineering away manual, recurring work. You'll have real autonomy, a direct line to executive stakeholders, and a mandate to modernize—not maintain the status quo. There is no on-call rotation and no after-hours support expectation.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Take progressive ownership of our Microsoft Fabric lakehouse as our implementation partner delivers unified ingestion, harmonized customer and product models, and cross-domain analytics.
  • Review partner architecture, code, and data models; document everything; build runbooks; drive the team to full internal operability.
  • Design, build, and operate reliable ELT pipelines from ERP and managed-services systems into OneLake using Fabric Data Factory, notebooks, and semantic models.
  • Productionize analytics data products end-to-end—from raw data through modeled layers to consumable datasets and reports, including churn, customer 360, and cost-to-serve.
  • Own issue resolution for our reporting and data platform, partnering closely with our data analyst: debug complex Power BI reports, tune semantic models and DAX, and resolve refresh and gateway issues.
  • Automate recurring reporting work to free analyst capacity for higher-value analysis.
  • Establish standards for data quality testing, monitoring, documentation, and version control across the platform.
  • Act as our technical counterpart to vendors and consultants: evaluate proposals, pressure-test designs, and hold external partners accountable to engineering standards.

Required Skills / Experience

  • 5\+ years building and operating production data pipelines and warehouse/lakehouse platforms.
  • Expert SQL and strong Python; you write clean, tested, maintainable code. Hands-on experience with a modern cloud data platform—Microsoft Fabric or the Azure data stack preferred (Synapse, Data Factory, Databricks); strong AWS/GCP backgrounds welcome.
  • Solid Power BI skills: comfortable inheriting and debugging complex reports, optimizing datasets and DAX.
  • An AI-native development workflow: experience using agentic AI coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot) as a core part of how you build, with the ability to explain how you direct, review, and validate AI-generated work.
  • Comfort operating independently as the most technical person in the room, making sound architectural decisions without a large engineering org behind you.
  • Clear communication with non-technical stakeholders, including executives. Experience with ERP, PSA, or field-service system data, or a background in managed services, managed print, distribution, or another service-intensive industry, is a plus.
  • Familiarity with dbt or similar transformation frameworks, CI/CD for data, or Airflow/comparable orchestration is a plus.
  • Experience insourcing or taking over a consultant-built platform is a plus.
  • Bachelor's Degree Preferred.
  • Experience with ERP, PSA, or field-service system data in a services business.
  • Background in managed services, managed print, distribution, or another service-intensive industry.
  • dbt or similar transformation frameworks; CI/CD for data; Airflow or comparable orchestration.
  • Experience insourcing or taking over a consultant-built platform.
