Job Description

Company Description

Transport Planning \& Engineering Ltd (TP\&E) is a social enterprise transport consultancy focused on delivering sustainable transport networks that enable people everywhere to enjoy the benefits of walking, wheeling and cycling. The team combines civil engineering and transport planning expertise to deliver high-quality, people-focused projects with a professional and personal approach. TP\&E has a deep understanding of the needs and priorities of non-motorised road users, from daily commuting on foot or by bike to leisure touring and disability cycling.

The organisation’s staff are passionate about active travel and committed to creating opportunities for everyone to be more active through their work. TP\&E offers a collaborative environment where social impact, accessibility, and active travel are at the core of every project.

Role Description

The Senior Engineer will play a key role in planning, designing, and delivering sustainable transport and cycling infrastructure projects within TP\&E’s portfolio. On a day-to-day basis, this role involves leading project design work, preparing technical drawings and reports, overseeing detailed designs and contributing to civil engineering solutions that support walking, cycling and other forms of active travel. The Senior Engineer will coordinate with clients, stakeholders and provide guidance to junior colleagues ensuring projects meet technical, safety and accessibility standards.

This is a full-time, hybrid role based in Glasgow, with a mix of office-based work, site visits, stakeholder meetings and some work-from-home flexibility. The position offers the opportunity to improve network connectivity and support TP\&E’s mission to create inclusive, people-focused transport environments.

Qualifications

  • Strong background in civil engineering and/or transport engineering, including experience in the design of cycling and walking infrastructure.
  • Experience in transport planning, feasibility studies and the development of sustainable transport strategies and schemes.
  • Proficiency in relevant design and drafting software (e.g., CAD tools) and familiarity with applicable standards, guidance, and best practices for active travel and road safety.
  • Ability to manage projects, coordinate multidisciplinary teams and engage effectively with clients, community stakeholders and public authorities.
  • Excellent analytical, written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear technical reports, drawings and contract documentation.
  • Demonstrated commitment to sustainable transport, active travel and inclusive design with an understanding of the needs of non-motorised and disabled road users.
  • Relevant degree in civil engineering, transport engineering or a related discipline. Professional registration or progression toward chartered status is advantageous.
  • Experience mentoring or providing technical oversight to junior staff and a collaborative working style suited to a social enterprise environment.
