Role Description
The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will lead the design and delivery of mechanical building services for a variety of construction projects. Responsibilities include developing mechanical concepts, performing detailed design calculations, producing and reviewing CAD models and drawings, and coordinating designs with other disciplines such as electrical and structural engineering. The role involves mentoring junior engineers, reviewing their work, and ensuring technical quality and compliance with relevant standards and regulations. The engineer will attend design meetings, liaise with clients, contractors, and suppliers, and support site inspections, technical reviews, and issue resolution during construction. This is a full-time hybrid role based in Greater London, with flexibility to work from home for part of the week.
Qualifications
- Strong expertise in Mechanical Engineering and Design Engineering for building services projects.
- Proficiency in Machine Design and Product Design, with experience translating requirements into robust, buildable solutions.
- Advanced skills in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools for 2D drawings and 3D modeling of mechanical systems.
- Experience in MEP design, including HVAC, piping, and associated mechanical systems, ideally within the UK construction industry.
- Solid understanding of relevant building regulations, industry standards, and sustainability principles.
- Demonstrated ability to lead projects, manage priorities, and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline; chartered or working toward chartered status is an advantage.
- Experience mentoring junior engineers and contributing to continuous improvement of design processes and standards.
