Job Description

Luminex Network Intelligence is looking for a

Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

with strong expertise in sheet metal housings to design and develop robust enclosures for our electronic products.

You will work on conceptual design, mechanical integration, manufacturability, and BOM management, collaborating closely with electrical, manufacturing, and quality teams. A strong focus on

Design for Manufacturability (DFM)

is central to this role, as we are actively raising the quality bar across our sheet metal supply chain.

As our product development matures, mechanical engineering will take on a more central role earlier in the design process, including simulation work that informs electronic design decisions, harness and cable routing in SolidWorks, and full assembly BOM ownership through to product launch.

We are looking for someone senior enough to help shape that evolution, not just execute within it.

This role is ideal for someone who combines technical depth, practical engineering, ownership, and a passion for high‑quality product design.

Key Responsibilities

1 \| Mechanical Design \& Integration

  • Design and develop sheet metal housings for electronic equipment across various form factors.
  • Create detailed 3D models and 2D drawings in SolidWorks.
  • Perform feasibility studies and structural/thermal analysis, using simulation early in development to inform design decisions, in collaboration with electrical engineering.
  • Integrate PCBs, wiring harnesses, EMC considerations, and thermal dissipation into robust mechanical assemblies.

2 \| Manufacturability \& Quality

  • Drive DFM improvements for laser cutting, punching, bending, and welding.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and quality teams to raise consistency and first‑time‑right rates.
  • Help mature our sheet metal supply chain through improved processes, documentation, and engineering standards.

3 \| Ownership, BOM Management \& Collaboration

  • Manage BOMs in SolidWorks PDM, growing into full assembly BOM ownership.
  • Lead design reviews and act as a technical reference for junior engineers.
  • Take hands‑on ownership during prototyping, validation, and integration.
  • Work with manufacturing engineers to define scalable assembly processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or similar.
  • 7\+ years of experience in mechanical design with a track record beyond execution, you have helped shape or improve engineering processes.
  • Strong proficiency in SolidWorks and SolidWorks PDM.
  • Proven experience in sheet metal fabrication and DFM improvements.
  • Simulation experience (structural/thermal) is a strong plus.
  • Comfortable owning full assembly BOMs.
  • Experience with plastic housing design is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams.
  • Comfortable mentoring junior engineers (without formal people management).
  • Quality‑driven, detail‑oriented, and proactive.
