Senior Mechanical Engineer
Robotics \& Autonomous Systems

Airbotics Talent are supporting an innovative robotics business developing advanced autonomous systems designed to improve efficiency, sustainability and operational performance across critical industrial environments.
As part of continued growth and product development activities, the organisation is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to support the next generation of its robotic platform and help drive products from concept through testing, deployment and production.
This is a permanent engineering appointment suited to someone with strong mechanical fundamentals, a hands-on mindset and previous experience developing complex electromechanical systems.
The Role
This is a hands-on engineering position responsible for the design, development and continuous improvement of mechanical systems and assemblies supporting a highly advanced robotic platform.
The successful candidate will take ownership of key subsystems, working closely with multidisciplinary teams spanning software, electronics, robotics and operations.
The role combines mechanical design, prototyping, testing and product development within a fast-moving engineering environment, with the opportunity to assume increasing technical responsibility as the business scales.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop mechanical systems and components for advanced robotic platforms
- Take ownership of key subsystems from concept through testing and production
- Create CAD models, assemblies, drawings and supporting technical documentation
- Drive design decisions with a focus on reliability, manufacturability, assembly and cost
- Develop solutions involving structures, actuation, power transmission, sealing and sensor integration
- Prototype, test and troubleshoot designs across laboratory and field environments
- Collaborate closely with software, electronics, robotics and operations teams
- Work with suppliers and manufacturing partners to support production activities
- Support engineering best practices and continuous product improvement initiatives
- Contribute to the development of robust and scalable products capable of operating in demanding environments
The Person
Applicants should bring previous experience developing complex mechanical or electromechanical products within robotics, automation or advanced engineering environments.
The ideal candidate will bring:
- BSc or MSc in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
- 5\+ years of experience developing complex mechanical or electromechanical systems
- Experience taking products from concept through testing and deployment
- Strong CAD capability, ideally with exposure to Onshape
- Understanding of GD\&T, tolerance analysis, DFM and DFA principles
- Experience working with machined components, polymers, sheet metal and complex assemblies
- Hands-on engineering mindset with strong problem-solving capability
- Ability to operate within fast-paced and evolving engineering environments
- Previous experience within robotics, autonomous systems or industrial machinery would be advantageous
- Exposure to mobile robotic platforms, harsh environment systems or subsea technologies would be beneficial
- Experience supporting supplier management, qualification testing and production ramp activities would be considered advantageous
