Overview

We are seeking a

Solution Architect

to support a major modernization project replacing a long-standing legacy enterprise application. This application is the source of truth for item, pricing, cost, nutritional, and related product data across retail and wholesale operations. The Solution Architect will help define the future-state architecture, support vendor/platform evaluation, and ensure the new solution is scalable, resilient, maintainable, and aligned with enterprise architecture standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead future-state architecture definition for a legacy application modernization effort.
• Translate business objectives and current-state processes into end-to-end solution designs.
• Define application architecture, integration patterns, data flows, and ownership boundaries.
• Partner across business, product, engineering, SAP/non-SAP, integration, data, vendor, and enterprise architecture teams.
• Facilitate architecture working sessions and decision forums, surfacing tradeoffs early to drive informed decisions.
• Establish architecture principles, patterns, and guardrails to avoid duplication, point solutions, unnecessary customization, and future technical debt.
• Ensure solutions are designed holistically across core platforms, surrounding applications, integrations, data layers, and downstream systems.
• Validate that designs account for scalability, resiliency, data integrity, operational sustainability, and long-term supportability.
• Partner with Enterprise Architecture to align with standards, support governance, and escalate key decisions to Design Authority when needed.
• Support vendor/platform evaluation and translate business/technical needs into solution requirements.
• Help prepare the architecture foundation for downstream architects, build teams, vendors/SIs, and future implementation phases.

Required Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Solution Architect or Enterprise Solution Architect.
• Experience with complex enterprise application modernization or replacement projects.
• Strong understanding of application architecture, integrations, and data flows.
• SQL/database understanding.
• Ability to work with business and technical stakeholders to uncover requirements and system dependencies.
• Strong facilitation, communication, and documentation skills.
• Comfortable working in ambiguous environments with incomplete documentation.

Preferred Qualifications

• Retail and/or wholesale experience.
• Experience with item master, product data, pricing, cost, promotions, inventory, merchandising, or POS-related systems.
• Experience with vendor selection or platform evaluation.
• Experience moving from a custom/homegrown application to a vendor-supported solution.
• Familiarity with SAP and non-SAP ecosystems.
• Familiarity with Java-based environments, SQL databases, WildFly, Tomcat, Git, or similar tools.

he projected hourly range for this position is $93 to $100\.
