SQL Data Analyst

Job description

We are looking for a highly analytical and detail-oriented

SQL Data Analyst

to support and enhance reporting, data validation, and reconciliation processes for a large-scale financial system.

This role is not a typical developer role it requires deep expertise in SQL, advanced Excel, and data validation, with the ability to troubleshoot complex data mismatches across systems, reports, and dashboards.

Key Responsibilities

Data Analysis

• Develop, optimize, and maintain complex SQL queries
• Generate summarised and transaction-based reports
• Handle large datasets and ensure accurate aggregations and summaries
• Support business teams with ad-hoc data requirements

Data Validation \& Reconciliation

• Identify and resolve data mismatches between reports, database, and UI
• Perform end-to-end data validation across modules
• Conduct reconciliation of financial data across multiple sources
• Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and integrity

SQL \& Database Management

• Write complex queries involving joins across multiple tables
• Use CTEs, window functions, subqueries, and stored procedures
• Optimize queries for performance (indexing, execution plans)
• Debug and fix issues related to incorrect data outputs

Excel \& Data Handling

• Work extensively on large datasets using Excel
• Create advanced reports using:
• Pivot Tables
• VLOOKUP / XLOOKUP
• INDEX-MATCH
• Perform data cleaning, comparison, and validation in Excel
• Support stakeholders with export data analysis

Issue Debugging \& Support

• Investigate and resolve production issues related to reporting/data
• Analyze discrepancies reported by business teams and MLIs
• Coordinate with development teams for fixes and improvements
• Maintain logs and audit trails for issue resolution

Required Skills (Must Have)

Core Skills

• Strong expertise in SQL (Advanced Level)
• Excellent knowledge of data validation \& reconciliation techniques
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Technical Skills

• Experience with SQL Server / MySQL
• Hands-on with:
• Complex joins (multiple tables)
• Window functions (ROW_NUMBER, RANK, etc.)
• Stored procedures \& query optimization
• Understanding of large-scale reporting systems

Domain Experience

• Experience in Banking / Financial Services only (Accounts Ledger, Payable, Receivable)
• Exposure to financial data, transactions
• Understanding of data flows in enterprise applications
