Job Description

Job Description

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC)

is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1\.15 million people, and to a wider population of 2\.2 million when regional and national services are included.

The Role

The operating theatre department provides a safe, efficient, and highly skilled peri‑operative service for patients undergoing elective and emergency surgery across a wide range of specialties. The team delivers comprehensive care from a patient’s arrival in theatre through anaesthesia, surgery, and post‑anaesthetic recovery, including support for critically ill patients and those requiring procedures in areas such as radiology, endoscopy, ICU, and A\&E. Staff work across multiple specialties with dual training in scrub, anaesthetics, and recovery, and may work across sites within NHS Greater Glasgow \& Clyde as service needs require.

The department supports continuous professional development through structured education programmes and competency frameworks. With an expanding service covering 13 theatres and numerous surgical specialties, the team plays a key role in assessing, planning, delivering, and evaluating high‑quality peri‑operative care, requiring flexibility, initiative, and strong teamwork within a service that operates across a five‑day week with out‑of‑hours commitments.
