Job Description
Senior \& Staff Backend Engineer, Booking Platform \& APIs
New York City (Manhattan) · 4 days onsite · $190K to $250K base \+ equity
The company
- Growth-stage, venture-backed and already profitable
- The category leader in a consumer marketplace with millions of customers and thousands of business partners
- A small, senior engineering team, all in NYC
- Engineers come from Google, Meta, Microsoft and Bloomberg
Why now
The product works and the business makes money. Now they’re opening the platform up:
- Distribution APIs:
large consumer platforms, financial brands and AI agents will sell inventory directly through the API you build
- New product categories:
each one adds new booking rules to model
- International expansion:
starting next year
That means rebuilding the core backend and data model, and this hire leads it.
What you’ll build
- The external booking API partners plug into: search, pricing, holds, bookings, changes, cancellations
- A data model flexible enough for bundles, add-ons, timed slots and tickets
- The hard parts of a booking system: concurrency, inventory locking and consistency across partners
- The patterns every future integration is built on
Two levels
- Senior (2 hires):
own API design and day-to-day technical decisions, with a path to Staff
- Staff (1 hire):
own the booking domain and technical roadmap, still writing production code
What they look for
- Strong system design and data modelling
- A clear communicator who can explain the why behind a decision
- Curious problem solvers. Stack doesn’t matter; most of the team learned it on the job
- Bonus: payments, orders, reservations or inventory systems
The deal
- Senior $190K to $210K base, Staff $220K to $250K, plus equity
- 4 days in a Manhattan office
- Fast process: strong candidates have gone from first call to offer in a week
US work authorization required (TN accepted).
