Position Summary

Plan, lay-out, weld, install, and repair all types of structural steel products in accordance with applicable plans, specifications, welding codes and industry standards.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

---------------------------------------

  • Ability to troubleshoot problems, identify, propose and implement remedies.
  • Perform repairs and maintenance aboard dredges and other marine vessels.
  • Install, assemble, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair various equipment.
  • Fabricate with different types of metals via torches, plasma \& other related craft power tools.
  • Understanding of diagrams, schematics, drawings and technical manuals for repairs and diagnostics of equipment.
  • Understand and sketch complex mechanical and structural drawings.
  • Utilize instruments to measure angles, material thickness and distances i.e. - squares, levels, tapes \& other craft related devices.
  • Regularly communicate and work with contractors, vendors, and other trades
  • Ensure work areas are kept clean and well organized.
  • Complete assigned tasks in a safe/productive manner.
  • Follows all company and work site safety policies/procedures and commits to an “Incident and Injury Free” work environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Estimating sizes, distances, and quantities; or determining time, costs, resources, or materials needed to perform a work activity.
  • Inspect subordinate's work for compliance with the contract plans and specifications, point out deficiencies and explain and take any corrective action needed.

Qualifications

------------------

  • 3\+ years of fabrication and shipyard experience
  • Technical understanding of stick, tig/mig \& flux-core processes
  • Experience in weld testing procedures i.e. - visual inspection, pressure testing, dye penetrant \& hydrostatic.
  • Understanding of ABS, OSHA, and USCG regulations related to field
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from the job site
  • Travel (by land, air, and water) to field locations is required, transportation paid.
  • Ability to work a 50-hour work week M-F, overtime as needed
  • Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions and communicate effectively with craft workers under his/her supervision and management/supervision.
  • Proficient in the safe and efficient use of electrical, hand tools, power tools and layout tools as well as measurement tools.

Requirements

  • Must possess a valid Driver's license, must have a good driving record
  • Required Certification (Any one of the four):
  • FCAW-6GR (Preferred)
  • SMAW-6GR (Preferred)
  • FCAW-3G \& 4G
  • SMAW-3G \& 4G
  • TWIC - Transportation Worker Identification Credential (preferred)
  • Must be able to tolerate rough seas, vibrations, heat, harsh weather conditions, confined spaces, and high noise levels.
  • Work will frequently require individuals to push, pull, bend, or stand for long periods of time, and climb ladders.
  • Must be able to lift or carry miscellaneous equipment, supplies, and parts, up to 50 lbs. unassisted.
  • Performs other duties as required.
