Who we are looking for

We are seeking a visionary yet hands-on

SVP, Engineering \& Product,

to lead our R\&D function comprising the Engineering and Product teams. This is a critical leadership role responsible for shaping the future of our technology and product while driving innovation and modernization across our platform.

Some context: Our project management platform has a rich 23-year-old legacy and counts loyal users, with thousands having been with the platform for over a decade.

Over the past year, the platform has undergone significant technology modernization and a significant facelift on the front end and backend, migrating from a legacy codebase and infrastructure to a more modern setup. It now needs to evolve on the innovation front to truly define how new-age teams get work done: components uniquely suited to the needs of our ICP (product delighters), integrated and automated workflows, in-built intelligence, among others.

The ideal candidate thus will have significant experience leading Engineering \& Product teams through end-to-end platform modernization efforts in a hands-on manner - you’ve first-hand led the strategy, re-architecture, and development aspects of such efforts, being in the weeds with your team. At the same time, you are so obsessed with technological advancements that you are usually amongst the first to test the latest beta OpenAI, Anthropic, AWS, Google, or Microsoft drop.

Lastly, you are intrinsically motivated to put technology to use for the betterment of the world - in our case, driving outcomes at Universities, Hospitals, Credit Unions, Senior Living Homes, and other community-centric organizations.

Note: This role is more suited for Engineering Leaders with some experience leading Product teams, versus the other way round. Hands-on technical prowess and solid development experience are must-haves to succeed in this role.

What you will do

R\&D Leadership:

• Define and execute the company’s technology and product vision, aligning with business goals.
• Lead platform modernization efforts for both frontend and backend systems, ensuring scalability, performance, and maintainability.
• Work closely with the CEO and other members of the leadership team in making Workzone a leading enabler of productivity and collaboration in critical industries.
• Foster an organizational culture of tech innovation wherein technological advancements like AI and quantum computing are viewed as opportunities to transform user impact in a rapid, iterative manner.

Platform Innovation:

• Lead the development of our next-gen product offerings aimed at being:
• Integrated: Unifying organizational workflows through integrations and transforming cross-departmental collaboration through connected systems
• Intelligent: Smart digital assistants that are a combination of AI agents, automated workflows, and insights generators that help managers \& execs use data to solve productivity and work management challenges
• Intuitive: Platform that adapts to agile, waterfall or hybrid project management preferences, delivers modern user experiences across various form factors and is built for today’s digital native audiences.
• Stay ahead of emerging technology trends and technologies to maintain a competitive edge, while being able to separate hype from substance.

Ongoing Platform, Infrastructure \& Compliance Modernization:

• Continued upgrade of our Java-centric tech stack:
• Runtime/server: Java \+ Embedded Tomcat
• Web framework: Vue.js , Turbine MVC \+ Velocity
• Data layer: ORM \+ PostgreSQL/Aurora
• JUnit 5
• Continued upgrade of Engineering and testing methodologies, moving to a more agile-based approach that leverages modern development tools to build and ship at rapid velocity
• Maintain HIPAA and SOC2 Type II compliance, while evaluating other compliance and security needs on an ongoing basis
• Constantly evaluate and implement new systems and infrastructure to keep the platform at par with modern standards
• Continue to drive efficiencies and quality in development through the adoption of agentic AI tools.

Product Development:

• Collaborate with the Product Director to design and deliver product roadmaps that meet market demands.
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement in product and engineering teams.
• Collaborate with Customer Success, Training \& Support, and Sales teams to deeply understand customer workflows and pain points, subsequently translating them into solutions that can be built and shipped through our platform.

Team Leadership:

• Scale and mentor high-performing engineering and product teams, located in the US \& Eastern Europe
• Create an inclusive and innovative environment that empowers team members to excel.
• Help team members uplevel and upskill through hands-on technical and leadership coaching.

You will also be responsible for the corporate IT infrastructure, platform security, and compliance.

Requirements

• 10\+ years

of experience in technology leadership roles,

preferably as CTO, Head of Technology, or VP-Technology,

leading lean teams at

B2B SaaS companies.

• Hands-on leadership style rooted in a “move fast and get shit done” mentality: you are as passionate about writing code as you are about figuring out the next wave of tech innovation (no ivory towers here)
• Expertise in modern software development methodologies, including extensive experience with our current stack (outlined above)
• AI-native approach towards product roadmap and development
• Extensive experience managing remote offshore teams (our development teams are primarily based in Bulgaria)
• Strong experience in AWS infrastructure and building scalable, secure SaaS applications.
• Experience in data architecture, handling large-scale data sets, and data privacy regulations (PII, PHI, etc).
• Hands-on experience with systems integration, performance optimization, and API design.
• Exceptional leadership and team-building skills, with a history of fostering innovation and collaboration.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to influence and align diverse stakeholders.
• Prior experience with project management platforms or collaboration tools is a big plus.

Compensation \& Benefits

• $180K - $200K base salary, annual performance pay, equity (commensurate with experience).
