Job Description

About the Company

A newly established renewable energy platform focused on the development and construction of utility-scale solar and battery energy storage (BESS) projects across North America.

The company has an existing multi-gigawatt pipeline of solar and storage assets, with several hundred megawatts expected to reach Notice to Proceed (NTP) in the near term and significant additional capacity advancing through development over the next 12–24 months.

The platform is backed by a well-capitalized private investment firm focused exclusively on North American energy and infrastructure. Through this backing, the company has access to:

  • A highly experienced team of investor-operators with deep expertise across development, construction, and transactions
  • Committed discretionary capital, alongside strong relationships with debt and tax equity providers
  • A mature and differentiated approach to financing, procurement, and project execution

The business is building out a high-caliber team across development, engineering, construction, and finance. This is an opportunity to join at an early stage of a fully capitalized platform and play a key role in scaling a top-tier renewable energy business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build, lead, and scale the internal engineering function across solar and BESS projects
  • Define engineering standards, design philosophies, and technical best practices across the portfolio
  • Establish processes that ensure alignment between development, engineering, and construction
  • Act as the senior technical authority across all projects

Project Delivery Oversight

  • Oversee engineering across the full lifecycle: late-stage development through commissioning
  • Ensure designs meet performance, cost, and constructability targets
  • Partner with project management teams on EPC contract development and technical scope
  • Provide executive oversight on engineering risk, value engineering, and optimization

Third-Party \& Stakeholder Management

  • Lead selection and management of external engineering firms, consultants, and OEMs
  • Interface with EPC contractors, suppliers, and financing partners on technical matters
  • Support interconnection strategy and engagement with utilities and ISOs
  • Represent the company in technical discussions with investors, lenders, and customers

Technical Excellence \& Innovation

  • Drive continuous improvement in system design, specifications, and equipment selection
  • Evaluate emerging technologies across PV, storage, controls, and grid integration
  • Optimize performance, reliability, and cost efficiency across projects
  • Ensure robust QA/QC processes across design, construction, and commissioning

Team Building \& Development

  • Recruit, mentor, and develop a high-performing engineering team
  • Define clear roles, responsibilities, and career progression
  • Build a culture of accountability, collaboration, and technical excellence

Qualifications

Experience

  • 10–15\+ years in electrical or power systems engineering (or related field)
  • 7–10\+ years in utility-scale solar, BESS, or hybrid energy projects
  • Experience leading engineering teams within a developer, IPP, EPC, or OEM
  • Track record delivering projects from development through COD

Technical Expertise

  • Strong experience in PV and/or energy storage system design and integration
  • Deep understanding of interconnection, transmission systems, and utility coordination
  • Experience with SCADA, EMS, and control systems
  • Familiarity with protection systems and communications infrastructure
  • Strong knowledge of EPC contracting, specifications, and procurement

Leadership \& Commercial Acumen

  • Ability to balance technical and commercial considerations (cost, risk, schedule)
  • Strong stakeholder management across internal and external groups
  • Experience influencing senior leadership and cross-functional teams
