At Carbon, our mission goes beyond 3D printing. We are enabling creators everywhere to make what the world needs, right now. Our company is built on the idea that diverse fields of study must come together to solve intractable problems. We have grand ambitions to create technology that will influence industry around the world. You will be joining a diverse team with a vibrant culture, where team success is as important as celebrating individual contributions.

Help us change the world and we will help you change yours.

Job Description:

VP of Product Management

We are seeking a VP of Product Management to lead product strategy as Carbon enters its next chapter. Carbon brought 3D printing into true scaled production, and our technology is behind products that cannot be made any other way, from football helmet liners to digital dentures. Now we are building with it: where an application is ours to win, Carbon will own the customer relationship, run the production, and capture the value we create, while our subscription business and manufacturing partners continue to thrive alongside us.

This role is critical to turning that direction into a roadmap. The ideal candidate is equally credible in a customer's boardroom and in an engineering design review, thinks in part economics rather than feature lists, and can make hard portfolio calls with clarity. Reporting to the CEO, this individual will own the product roadmap across hardware, materials, cleaning systems, and software, and will lead the evaluation of which new applications Carbon brings into its own production.

This role is based in Sunnyvale, CA and you will be expected to be in-office.

What You Will Do:

Application Strategy \& Graduation

  • Own the business case for each candidate application Carbon considers.
  • Build the evidence that we can execute, that the application is meaningful to our top line, that it is gross-profit-dollar accretive, and bring clear recommendations to the leadership team.
  • Distinguish great production businesses from beautiful demos, and say no to the latter.

Product Roadmap \& Prioritization

  • Set a single, published roadmap across printers, materials, part cleaning, design software, and production automation software.
  • Fund work that benefits our existing business only when it carries a clear gross profit business case.
  • Make and communicate the hard calls on what we slow down or stop building, with a named rationale for each.

Next-Generation Platform

  • Partner with engineering leadership to define requirements for our next-generation printing technology, with production cost, yield, and throughput as primary requirements.
  • Translate the needs into product requirements for hardware, materials, and software.

Partner \& Customer Ecosystem

  • Keep the roadmap healthy for our install base and partners, who remain a durable engine for the business.
  • Engage directly with OEM customers, partners, and internal production teams to ground decisions in real part economics.

Team Leadership \& Development

  • Lead, recruit, and develop a team of product managers who think in cost per part, yield, and gross profit dollars, not just feature lists.
  • Establish product processes that tie every major investment to the applications and outcomes it enables.

Cross-Functional Collaboration \& Reporting

  • Serve as the connective tissue between R\&D, operations, go-to-market, marketing and finance on product direction.
  • Provide regular roadmap, application pipeline, and portfolio updates to the CEO, leadership team, and Board.

Qualifications

Required:

  • 10\+ years of experience in product management or product leadership, including 5\+ years leading teams of product managers.
  • Track record of bringing physical products from customer insight into high-volume manufacturing, ideally with ownership of production economics.
  • Demonstrated ownership of business outcomes such as revenue, margin, or gross profit, not only delivery milestones.
  • Strong technical fluency across hardware, materials, and software, with the ability to make informed tradeoffs among them and earn the respect of engineers and scientists.
  • Ability to size markets, evaluate customer contracts, and build rigorous application business cases.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Materials Science, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
  • Proven ability to make and communicate difficult portfolio decisions, including what not to build.
  • Must be a U.S. person (U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or other protected individual) due to access to technology controlled under U.S. export regulations (ITAR/EAR). This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience in a vertically integrated manufacturing business, or building products used primarily by your own factories.
  • Background in 3D printing, additive manufacturing, or polymer processing.
  • Experience with regulated products in medical, dental, or defense markets.
  • MBA or general management / P\&L experience.
  • Familiarity with Lean manufacturing, yield improvement, or Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles.
