Video Editor & Researcher (Political Finance)

I’m looking for a sharp, fast-moving video editor and content researcher to help grow a fast-scaling Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube brand focused on Canada vs. USA economics, real estate, politics, taxes, housing, cost of living, and entrepreneurship.

The brand currently has 172K\+ Instagram followers and is built around viral reaction-style content exposing why ambitious Canadians are leaving Canada and building better lives in the United States.

This role is perfect for someone who understands viral social media, can spot strong hooks, find relevant clips, edit punchy short-form videos, and help turn economic/political topics into content people want to watch, share, and argue about.

Responsibilities

You will help with:

Researching viral clips related to Canada, the U.S., taxes, housing, politics, immigration, cost of living, real estate, entrepreneurship, and people leaving Canada.

Finding clips from podcasts, TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, news interviews, political speeches, and creator content that fit the brand angle.

Editing short-form videos for Instagram Reels, TikTok, Facebook Reels, and YouTube Shorts.

Creating strong first frames, bold captions, jump cuts, zooms, subtitles, headlines, and visual pacing that increase retention.

Turning long-form talking points into short, high-impact reels.

Helping organize content ideas, hooks, clips, and scripts.

Pulling basic data points, screenshots, charts, and article references to support claims.

Studying top-performing videos and helping replicate what works.

The Ideal Candidate

You should be:

Very familiar with Instagram Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and viral reaction content.

Strong at video editing, especially short-form social media editing.

Able to find viral clips and understand why they would perform.

Interested in economics, politics, real estate, taxes, Canada vs. USA comparisons, entrepreneurship, and money.

Comfortable with opinionated, bold, sometimes controversial content.

Fast, organized, reliable, and able to meet deadlines.

Good at spotting hooks like: “Wait… is that actually true?” or “This is exactly why people are leaving Canada.”

Able to take feedback and quickly improve.

Required Skills

Experience editing short-form vertical videos.

Strong understanding of captions, pacing, hooks, retention, and shareability.

Ability to source clips and research supporting facts.

Basic knowledge of Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and YouTube content trends.

Comfort with tools like CapCut, Premiere Pro, Final Cut, Descript, Canva, Google Drive, Slack, or similar.

Bonus Skills

Experience editing political, finance, real estate, or reaction-style content.

Ability to write hooks and short scripts.

Experience using AI tools like ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, OpusClip, or similar.

Understanding of Canadian politics, U.S. politics, housing markets, taxes, and entrepreneurship.

Ability to make thumbnails/first frames for reels.

Pay: $30\.00 - $40\.00 per hour
