Job Description

VP Finance and Accounting \| High-Growth Fintech \| Remote \| $250k–$300k \+ Bonus \+ Equity

The Company

We’re partnered with a rapidly scaling fintech company focused on expanding access to modern financial tools for hourly and frontline workers. With a nationwide employer footprint and recent institutional backing that includes a significant growth equity round and a large credit facility, the company has substantial capital to accelerate product development, strengthen infrastructure, and broaden its reach.

Rather than operating as a short-term lending solution, the platform enables employees to access wages they’ve already earned, on their own schedule. The goal is simple but powerful: improve cash-flow flexibility, reduce reliance on high-cost alternatives, and support long-term financial stability. Through a technology-first, compliance-driven approach, the company has already facilitated over a billion dollars in early wage access while becoming a trusted partner to employers looking to enhance retention and employee satisfaction.

As it enters its next growth phase, the business is evolving beyond a standalone employee app into a broader embedded payments and payroll enablement platform. The expanding product suite allows payroll processors, HR platforms, and workforce management systems to integrate real-time pay capabilities directly into their ecosystems. This includes deep API integrations, certified partnerships within major HCM environments, and distribution through established marketplace channels, positioning the company as foundational infrastructure within the modern payroll stack.

The Role

The VP of Finance and Accounting will own the entire controllership function, overseeing accounting, financial reporting, compliance, and operational finance processes. This role is highly visible and hands-on, partnering closely with FP\&A, Product, and executive leadership to support growth strategy, capital allocation, product expansion, and operational decisions. The role will also work closely with forward-facing systems, ensuring that financial reporting, metrics, and operational insights are integrated into tools and dashboards used across the business.

Importantly, this role is designed with a clear progression into broader FP\&A and strategic finance leadership over time. As the company scales and builds out its finance organization, this leader will have the opportunity to expand beyond core controllership into forecasting, long-range planning, strategic modeling, and enterprise-level financial decision support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end controllership function, including month-end close, GAAP financial reporting, audits, and internal controls
  • Partner with FP\&A on forecasting, budgeting, long-range planning, and scenario modeling to support strategic decisions
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory, tax, and credit facility requirements
  • Develop, document, and continuously improve finance processes, controls, and operational efficiency
  • Manage cash, liquidity, and working capital planning in partnership with the executive team
  • Support financial analysis related to new embedded B2B product rollouts, platform partnerships, and marketplace distribution models
  • Build, mentor, and scale a high-performing finance and accounting team
  • Serve as a strategic partner to the CFO and executive leadership, providing insights and recommendations that drive business growth

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Controller or VP of Finance in a tech startup or high-growth environment
  • Demonstrated ownership of full controllership function, including financial reporting, audits, and internal controls
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, accounting processes, and regulatory compliance
  • Experience leading and developing finance teams in a fast-scaling environment
  • Comfort operating in a hands-on, entrepreneurial setting with high visibility to executive leadership

Nice to Have

  • Experience implementing financial systems and processes to enable growth
  • Familiarity with fintech, SaaS, embedded finance, payroll integrations, or payments businesses
  • Exposure to strategic initiatives like M\&A, new product launches, integrations, or scale-phase operations
